Cattle Barn (First)

Building Name:
Cattle Barn (First)
Alternate Names:
Farm Barn
Historical Note:
Construction of the Cattle Barn started in 1860, and several improvements and additions were made over time. The original building was a 42 x 60 foot frame structure with stone walls on three sides and stables underground. In 1865 a root cellar was added and the area surrounding the barn was fenced, and a corn crib and hen house were added in 1871. An additional larger barn with connecting passageway was built in 1873. Due to ongoing maintenence concerns and changes in agricultural instruction, the barn was approved for demolition in 1928.
